Most naam jaap is one name repeated. This is not that. The Radha 28 naam is a namavali — a garland of twenty-eight distinct names, each one naming a different quality, relationship or region of Radha Rani's identity. You recite the whole garland from start to finish, and that complete circuit counts as one.

Namavali recitation belongs to a wide Vaishnava habit of praising by enumeration: the Vishnu Sahasranama lists a thousand names, the Radha Sahasranama of the Narada Pancharatra tradition lists a thousand for Radha, and shorter sets of eight, sixteen, twenty-eight and hundred-and-eight are drawn from them for daily use. The twenty-eight-name set is the one that circulates most widely in Braj and Vrindavan homes, short enough to hold in memory and long enough to feel like a complete offering.

Because a namavali is a description and not a petition, the tradition treats it as a way of learning who you are addressing. The single naam settles the mind; the twenty-eight names inform it. Many devotees keep both practices side by side for exactly that reason.

The garland is not a random list. Read in order, it moves outward from Radha Herself to Her relationships, then to Her cosmological standing, then to what devotees ask of Her.

Names of Her own nature

Radha — the one whose worship is perfect. Raseshwari — mistress of the rasa, the circle dance and, by extension, of divine delight itself. Ramya and Aaramya — the delightful one, the one in whom there is rest. Satya, Satyapara and Satyabhama — truth, that which is beyond truth, and the one whose radiance is truth. Purna — complete, lacking nothing. Purna Chandra Vimanana — whose face outshines the full moon.

Names of relationship

Krishna Matradhidevata — the presiding deity of Krishna's own mother-love and shelter. Sri Krishna Vallabha — the beloved of Krishna. Vrshabhanu Suta — daughter of King Vrishabhanu, the one name in the garland that fixes Her in a family and a place. Gopi — one of the cowherd women, the name that keeps Her human and near. Ashesha Gopi Mandala Pujita — worshipped by the entire circle of gopis without exception.

Names of place

Vrindavan Viharini — She who wanders and plays in Vrindavan. Vrinda Radha — Radha of the sacred grove. Gandhara — read by commentators as fragrance-bearing, the scent that identifies Her presence before She is seen.

Names of cosmic standing

Sarvadya — first of all. Sarvavandya — worthy of everyone's reverence. Mula Prakriti — the root nature from which the manifest world unfolds. Ishwari and Parameshwari — sovereign, supreme sovereign. Paratparatara — higher than the highest. Rama and Rukmini — names shared with Lakshmi and with Krishna's Dwarka queen, placing Radha within the single feminine divine across forms. Radhika — the affectionate diminutive, returning the garland to intimacy.

The two names that are requests

Only the last two ask for anything. Bhukti-Mukti Prada — giver of both worldly sufficiency and liberation. Bhava Vyadhi Vinashini — destroyer of the disease of worldly existence. The garland ends there deliberately: twenty-six names of praise, then two of appeal.

• It teaches while it settles. Devotees describe the garland as the fastest way to actually learn who Radha is — after a month of recitation the names stop being vocabulary and start being recognition.
• The mind cannot wander far. A single naam allows autopilot. Twenty-eight names in fixed order demand just enough attention that drifting is immediately obvious.
• It carries its own arc. Beginning in intimacy, widening to the cosmic, closing with two requests — practitioners say each recitation has the shape of a complete visit rather than a repetition.
• Praise before asking. The tradition holds that placing twenty-six names of praise before two of appeal reorders the devotee's own priorities, and that this is the point of the ordering.
• Fewer taps, deeper sessions. Because one bead takes ten to fifteen seconds, a mala here is a genuine sitting rather than something squeezed between two tasks.

One mala is the standard. 108 recitations of the garland is 3,024 names. At a comfortable unhurried pace that is roughly twenty minutes, and it is a full daily practice on its own.
